Re-Think Bible Study

bible_studyIf you associate Bible Study with something that will bore you out of your mind and make you wish you were somewhere else, you need to experience Tuesday evenings with us. We do not believe it will be a bore, make you snore, nor even make you feel ignored. You will find a group of folks that will accept you, make you feel welcome, and set you at ease. The folks you will meet will be people from various walks of life, denominational, and geographical backgrounds. You may even bump into someone you know. If not, it will be a great opportunity to make new friends.

The Bible will be presented in a way that is easily understood and delivered with enthusiasm. We also understand that the mind can only comprehend what the seat can endure so we will let you go at a decent hour (typically around 8:30). There are those occasions where the presence of God is so wonderful, folks want to stick around. You can leave at your convenience, however.

Bible Study begins at 7:30, but we also offer pre-service prayer at 7:00 and we invite you to join us for that as well. The church is located at 15540 Lee Highway in between Skyland Coin and Jewelry and Economy Inn. If our parking lot is full please feel free to park in either of these businesses’ lots at their suggestion. We look forward to seeing you!

Fruitful

fruitfulLast Tuesday we began a lesson series entitled “Fruitful” and we are looking forward to Part 2 of that series tonight. Scripture is clear that it is certainly the will of God that we are productive Christians. We will not truly be fulfilled and neither will God be pleased with less.

As I recall, our Lord cursed the fig tree for not being productive while it was producing leaves (Mark 11:12-14). Typically when there were leaves on a fig tree, there would be figs. The tree was advertising to be something it was not. The Bible also bears out that we would know a tree by the fruit it produces (Matt. 7:20). An apple tree will not produce bananas. As Christians, our words and deeds must match. We need to be a light in a dark world. We need to make a difference in our generation. We can with God’s help. We get that help from His Word and through spending time with Him. We are not good nor can we produce any good within ourselves. God wants to help us because He desires you and I to be fruitful.

Won’t you join us this evening as we continue this important series from the Word of God? Let’s study together. Let’s fellowship together. Let’s pray together. We look forward to spending a portion of our evening with you.

Tuesdays Are Exciting!

Excited Man With Cell Phone

Grab your phone and send a text or call someone and tell them tonight is Bible Study night and it’s gonna be a great time! We start at 7:30, but pre-service prayer begins at 7:00 P.M.

We are looking forward to seeing each of you and studying the Word of God together. Bring a pen and we will supply the paper.
It’s going to be a great way to end the day!

Freedom Sunday

Fireworks FlagAs America unites to celebrate her national freedom, we want to come together to do the same, but also to experience and celebrate our spiritual liberty. The Scripture says, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Certainly we know something about being set free from the sin that had us bound.

As family and friends gather on this holiday weekend, we want to set aside a little while on Sunday afternoon to join with our church family and enjoy our spiritual freedom. Let’s not allow the festivities of a national holiday to infringe upon (and certainly not take the place of) time spent in God’s house.

This “Freedom Sunday” celebration will begin at 2:00 and we would love for you to come and worship with us. We are conveniently located at 15540 Lee Highway in between Abingdon and Bristol. Overflow parking is available next door at Skyland Coin and Jewelry. We look forward to seeing you!

Sunday Word and Worship

Amazing Grace #1

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
grace, grace, God’s grace,
grace that is greater than all our sin!

That’s what’s on my mind this evening. Please come tomorrow to find out why. Sunday Word and Worship begins at 2:00, but you are welcome to join us for pre-service prayer beginning at 1:30.

It’s a bit cold now, but the forecast is calling for sunshine tomorrow and no snow until the evening. We should be able to have you out in plenty of time to get home safe. Let’s take advantage of the opportunity and worship the Lord together!

Super Sunday

old-man-dancing

I realize there are a lot of folks excited about Super Bowl 50 this coming Sunday. Well, I for one, am excited about Sunday at The Apostolics of Abingdon.  Every Sunday is a Super Sunday and we would love for you to be a part of it.

While some will end their day tomorrow thrilled with the outcome of the game, others will be severely disappointed. Either way, I plan on ending my day happy. Happy that my joy isn’t going to be affected by who wins or loses the game. Happy that I am on the winning side. You see with God on your side, you just can’t lose. When our time here is over, and if we’re faithful to the end, we will be the winners.

So, come be a part of the winning team this Sunday at 2:00. Pre-service prayer begins at 1:30 and you are welcome to join us for that. We are located at 15540 Lee Highway in between Economy Inn and Skyland Coin and Jewelry. We look forward to seeing you!

Refresh (Recap)

Refresh (Water 3)Yesterday the title of the blog post was simply “Refresh.” It was referring to the regularly scheduled Tuesday night Bible Study. Let me say that to me, Tuesday evenings really are a time of refreshing in the presence of the Lord and last night was no different. If you were there, I hope you feel the same.

In the closing of the lesson on Repentance, I mentioned the Scripture in Acts 3:19. That Scripture states, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” There is nothing so refreshing as the feeling after having repented of your sins. As the Word of God came alive again to us last evening, I felt that “repentant spirit” and attempted to apply that Word to my heart. I must say there’s nothing like that clean feeling when we do so. No wonder the Bible talks about the “washing of water by the Word.” The Word of God once applied should leave us feeling clean within.

So, it really was a time of refreshing due to the topic at hand and the application thereof. Not only that, but there are some other Scriptures that come to mind regarding this subject. I thought of how Apostle Paul referenced some folks in 1 Corinthians 16:17-18, and he says of them; “they have refreshed my spirit and yours.” I thought about that and it’s true that there are just some folks that seem to refresh our spirits. That’s the way I felt after being with the people of God last night. Not only is the Word refreshing to us, but true Christians should refresh one another. They lift one another. They strengthen one another. Last night as I was leaving quite some time after the Bible Study had ended and the service had been dismissed, I left the building in the midst of chatter and laughter and it made my heart glad. Glad that folks wanted to be there. They enjoyed the Word and now were enjoying one another. That’s really the way it should be!

One other Scripture reference that I will point out is found in Isaiah 28:11-12. It says “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.” This was of course a prophecy about the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. I was reminded by this Scripture and also by the Spirit of the Lord I felt throughout the Bible Study, that the Holy Ghost is so refreshing to our soul. I’m also reminded that we must always allow room for Him to work among us and never “quench the Spirit” (1 Thess. 5:19). There are thirsty souls in this world that need the Spirit of the Lord to refresh them when they come. It doesn’t matter if it is Tuesday evening or a Sunday afternoon worship service, the Holy Ghost must be welcome among us!

This has been a lengthy post, but my heart is full this morning. It’s full of gratitude. I’m thankful for the Word that is so refreshing to my spirit. I’m thankful for the presence of God that satisfies my thirsty soul. I’m thankful for you. Each of you that are so faithful to come and refresh me with your words, your graciousness, your smile, and your presence.

I’ll see you Sunday!

Refresh

Refresh ButtonI know we are only a few days into the week, and only a couple into the work week, but sometimes you just feel like you need to hit the refresh button and start over. There’s nothing more refreshing, especially for your soul, than coming to Tuesday evening Bible Study and enjoying the Word of God together with friends new and old. That’s right, I said “enjoying” the Word of God. We don’t believe that this should be a boring, dreaded time, but something your soul can take delight in and be refreshed.

If this is your first time coming, you will find a group of folks that genuinely love God and love people. We are a young church so you won’t feel like a stranger. Many of us are still getting to know one another.

So come on out and join us as we open our Bibles and our hearts. It’s going to be a great evening and it will be even better with you there!
