Do I Have To?

Girl with BroccoliGoing to church should be more than a have to¬†situation; it should be a get to! Church does not have to be bland and boring. Sunday service does not have to start at ten o’clock sharp and end at twelve o’clock dull. The Psalmist David said, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1). Church can be exciting and engaging! It can be something you look forward to and not dread.

For some, going to church and enduring the lifeless singing and heartless preaching can seem more like a hostage situation. Singing that doesn’t promote heartfelt worship toward God and allow the participants opportunity to express their gratitude toward that God seems like a waste of time to many. Sermons that do not come from the heart never touch the heart and therefore parishoners are leaving the same way they came. Sitting through a lengthy service that leaves folks unchanged and unchallenged is pointless to those who then seek fulfillment by another means.
