Let’s Go!

IMG_5748Two simple words, but words that are intended to inspire, motivate, initiate, propagate evangelism, revival, and growth. Words that are Biblically inspired from passages like Matt. 28:19 – “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” and also Mark 16:15 – “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

“Let’s” – Let us. Together. Good things happen when we get together for a common cause. A Godly cause. Good things happen (God things happen) when the people have a mind to work.  There’s power in unity.

“Go” – It’s His mandate to the church – It’s us sharing the good news of the gospel. (You don’t even have gospel without “GO.”) “To every creature” – That excludes no one. He would have all men to be saved. He’s not willing that any should perish. Social status is irrelevant. Skin tone is to be a non-issue. Age makes no difference. Everywhere to everybody with the gospel – the good news.

“Let’s go!” – These are words of action. Words that cause the scurrying of the feet, the heart beating, the blood pumping, the adrenalin flowing. Words that move one from their comfort zone. Words that move us from the padded (or non-padded) pew to the paved streets or dirt roads of Abingdon, Bristol (both Bristols), and beyond. It’s to the highways and hedges. There’s no sacred territory. If there’s a lost person, we want them. Hills, hollows, apartment complexes, trailer parks, and subdivisions.

Words that propel us to the knocking of doors, sending of text messages, and making phone calls. These two words should inspire us to peddle church tracts, church cards, and flyers of invitation. We will continue to utilize newspaper advertisement, the internet, and other mediums that could be used to propagate this life changing, soul-saving message.

These two words are to be the mantra; the buzzwords for our assembly in 2017. When we hear them or see them may they awaken us from slumber and motivate us to action. It sets the tone and tenor for The Apostolics of Abingdon. No longer status quo. No longer complacent or idle. Not with eternity in view. Not with the gospel in our hands to give. Not with the judgement looming.

We know too much. God’s been to good. His blessings are too abundant for us not to share. Hell is too hot and eternity is too long. We must act. We must accept His challenge; His charge. The night is far spent. The day is at hand. Let’s work while there’s time. Let’s reach the lost. Let’s do it today. Come on, Let’s go!

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
Psalms 133:1

These are divisive times in which we are living. For some time we have been hearing and reading of various protests around our great nation. It almost seems to be promoted in recent days. People have even been paid good money to protest against causes they couldn’t care less about. Animosity and tension is being stirred up to little or no avail.

The political scene is not the only landscape where anger is manifested. There’s fighting in the streets, in our schools, and even in homes. Families are divided. The workplace often times is a place where frustration is personified. It’s seems peace is a rare commodity in this society.

I’m glad to know of one place where unity is promoted and experienced. A place where people from diverse backgrounds can come together and exist peacefully. Skin color is not an issue. Financial status is not a criteria for acceptance. A person’s past is just that; “the past.”

To be in a place where we forget about our differences and come together for a common cause. Where we can forgive and be forgiven. A place where people are real and the presence of God is too. That sounds like a pleasant place. That sounds like a place I want to be. Would you join me there? I’ll meet you this Sunday afternoon at 2:00. Deal?

God Bless America!

US Capital Inauguration 20171 Timothy 2:1-5
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Suffering Series

Lady Crying #1 (Suffering Series)I realize it doesn’t sound like an appealing title. I mean, who wants to hear about suffering? The fact is, suffering is a part of life and all of us either have faced it, we are dealing with it now, or it is coming our way.

We will begin a new series this Tuesday night that we believe will benefit everyone no matter your current lot in life. If you are currently facing tough times, this lesson is for you. If everything is going exactly as you would have it to go, this lesson is still for you. You can store it away for a later date, or use it to help someone else.

With God’s help and leading, we will attempt through this series to deal with many of the difficulties of life. If you’ve been challenged with sickness (either your own or someone you care about), loneliness, death, divorce, family struggles, or a multiplicity of troubles, these lessons will prove beneficial and you will not want to miss any of them. We believe through these, you can get help to conquer or cope with your situations.

Make plans to join us this Tuesday at 7:30 P.M. for a time of encouragement and direction from the Word of God. If you know someone who is struggling with life, ask them to join you. Let’s find strength from the pages of God’s Word!

Don’t Be Scared

Dogs with SweatersWe are looking forward to a great afternoon of Worship and Word this Sunday and hope you will join us. We realize the weather has been pretty rough, but it is expected to improve tomorrow. Sunday service does not start until 2:00 P.M. so all of the roads should be in good shape and the sun will be out to warm things up just a bit.

Our guest preacher and his family have braved the storm to be here so we want to come out and hear him if at all possible. Bro. Beard will be a blessing to you and the guests you may bring with you.

The church will be warm, the people will be warm and friendly, the presence of the Lord will warm your hearts. Bundle up and come on out to enjoy a time of good fellowship, good preaching, and a good God!

Guest Preacher

We are looking forward to having Rev. Burton Beard and his family with us this coming Sunday. You will not want to miss this special service. Please call someone and invite them to join you and be blessed!

Service will begin at 2:00, but doors will open at 1:30 for those who can come early for pre-service prayer. We also encourage you to pray for this service throughout this week and do everything you can to come and bring someone.

A New Year; A New You!

new-year-new-youAre you ready for some changes in this New Year? Maybe you’re among the 45% of Americans who usually make New Year’s resolutions. Maybe you’re afraid to make them because in the past you’ve been among the 49% who have infrequent success with them.

If you will come to Bible Study this Tuesday evening, we will give you some principals that will help you make some positive changes in 2017.  Who knows, it may even help you accomplish those weight loss goals.

We will begin at 7:30, but the doors open at 7:00 for those who are able to come early for prayer. The church is located at 15540 Lee Highway in between Skyland Coin and Jewelry and Economy Inn. If the church parking lot is full, either of these businesses welcome you to park in their paved lots. We look forward to seeing you!
