Refresh (Recap)

Refresh (Water 3)Yesterday the title of the blog post was simply “Refresh.” It was referring to the regularly scheduled Tuesday night Bible Study. Let me say that to me, Tuesday evenings really are a time of refreshing in the presence of the Lord and last night was no different. If you were there, I hope you feel the same.

In the closing of the lesson on Repentance, I mentioned the Scripture in Acts 3:19. That Scripture states, “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.” There is nothing so refreshing as the feeling after having repented of your sins. As the Word of God came alive again to us last evening, I felt that “repentant spirit” and attempted to apply that Word to my heart. I must say there’s nothing like that clean feeling when we do so. No wonder the Bible talks about the “washing of water by the Word.” The Word of God once applied should leave us feeling clean within.

So, it really was a time of refreshing due to the topic at hand and the application thereof. Not only that, but there are some other Scriptures that come to mind regarding this subject. I thought of how Apostle Paul referenced some folks in 1 Corinthians 16:17-18, and he says of them; “they have refreshed my spirit and yours.” I thought about that and it’s true that there are just some folks that seem to refresh our spirits. That’s the way I felt after being with the people of God last night. Not only is the Word refreshing to us, but true Christians should refresh one another. They lift one another. They strengthen one another. Last night as I was leaving quite some time after the Bible Study had ended and the service had been dismissed, I left the building in the midst of chatter and laughter and it made my heart glad. Glad that folks wanted to be there. They enjoyed the Word and now were enjoying one another. That’s really the way it should be!

One other Scripture reference that I will point out is found in Isaiah 28:11-12. It says “For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.┬áTo whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.” This was of course a prophecy about the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. I was reminded by this Scripture and also by the Spirit of the Lord I felt throughout the Bible Study, that the Holy Ghost is so refreshing to our soul. I’m also reminded that we must always allow room for Him to work among us and never “quench the Spirit” (1 Thess. 5:19). There are thirsty souls in this world that need the Spirit of the Lord to refresh them when they come. It doesn’t matter if it is Tuesday evening or a Sunday afternoon worship service, the Holy Ghost must be welcome among us!

This has been a lengthy post, but my heart is full this morning. It’s full of gratitude. I’m thankful for the Word that is so refreshing to my spirit. I’m thankful for the presence of God that satisfies my thirsty soul. I’m thankful for you. Each of you that are so faithful to come and refresh me with your words, your graciousness, your smile, and your presence.

I’ll see you Sunday!
