Thanksgiving Social

Happy Thanksgiving #2We will be having a Thanksgiving Social on Tuesday, Nov. 18th and we want you to come! It will be at Festive Celebrations located at 266 East Main Street in Abingdon, VA. We will begin at 7:30 P.M.

This is going to be an evening of relaxing with friends by enjoying some light food and refreshments as well as giving God thanks for the many things He has done for us individually as well as a group. You can come casual as we do want you to be relaxed. We look forward to seeing you!

Thank You!

Thank You For ComingWe want to say a special “Thank You” to everyone who came out to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center for our Community Worship Service Friday evening. It was so good to unite in prayer and worship with each of you. We had the privilege of making some new friends and we do hope you will return and be with us again soon. It means so much to have folks to fellowship with us!

We also appreciate those who drove quite a distance to be with us. Pastor Blankenship was our guest speaker and did a wonderful job delivering the Word of God. We also sincerely appreciate those who assisted us with singing and music. May God richly bless each of you!

Community Worship Service – What’s It All About?

Worship with UsAbingdon Bible Study group met for the first time in October of 2013 for an outreach service to the community. There was a definite interest realized from the community and we decided at that point we would meet the following Tuesday for Bible study. The short of the story is that we have been meeting every since and God’s favor has been evident.

We have Bible study on Tuesday evenings and Worship service on Sunday afternoons. You can see our meeting times and locations by viewing the events page here. We would love to have you visit with us at either of these. We believe that good things are in the making and we encourage you to come and check it out.

This coming Friday evening is going to be a special time, however and we hope you will attend. Folks from Abingdon, Bristol, other various locations will be gathering at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center for a Community Worship Service. We will begin service at 7:30 P.M. although you are welcome to join us in pre-service prayer at 7:00 to pray for the service, the community, our national and local leaders, one another, and revival in our area. We will convene in room 103.

We are going to gather to thank God for His blessings over this past year as well as hopefully get more acquainted with our community. We have made several friends and we are hoping you will join in with us for this special evening. Many have visited throughout the year or been a friend by your kind acts and supportive words and we want you to come and be a part of this event. We look forward to making new friends as well.

We will sing together, pray together, worship together, hear a Gospel Message from the Word of God, and fellowship with one another. It matters not your denominational affiliation or lack thereof, we want you to join with us on this special evening. You can sit where you like and participate at the level you are comfortable with. Come see and be a part of what God is doing in Abingdon!

10 Reasons NOT to Attend the Community Worship Service (and our rebuttal)

Excuses (No Excuses)1.“I won’t know anyone there.” – You may be surprised who you will bump into. Besides, it’s nice to meet new folks.
2.“It’s not my religion.” – No fear. It’s not about religion, it’s about proclaiming and celebrating the truth of God’s Word (John 17:17) and isn’t that what you are more concerned with? I thought so.
3.“I’m too tired.” – You will probably still be tired if you stay home. Besides, God’s Spirit is the rest that causes the weary to rest (Isaiah 28:12).
4.“I have too much to do.” – You will always have plenty to do. Take a break. Enjoy a good time in the Lord with God’s people.
5.“It’s too far from where I live.” – You have probably driven a lot further for less important things.
6.“It will cost me too much gas money.” – You have probably spent more on far less beneficial things and going places that had no eternal value.
7.“I’m afraid I won’t like it.” I sincerely doubt that will be the case, but if so, we won’t hold you hostage. You can leave whenever you desire.
8.“I don’t want to get all dressed up.” – Don’t.
9.“I have to work late.” – Come late; it’s ok.
10.“I’m afraid I will be uncomfortable.” – There will be folks there from various walks of life. We will not intentionally put anyone on the spot. You will be treated very kind and with respect. We will do everything we can to set you at ease. Sit where you like. Participate to the degree you are comfortable. Stay as long as you like.
