Keys to Effective Praying

Skeleton Keys on RingWe have begun a new series entitled Teach Us To Pray based upon Luke 11:1. There are several “keys” or key components to praying effectively found in the Bible and we want to discover them with God’s help. This is proving to be a special study for anyone interested in enhancing their relationship with Jesus Christ regardless of denominational affiliation or lack thereof.

No matter where you are on your journey with God; whether you are a seasoned Christian, a new convert, or you have never began a relationship with Jesus Christ all of us can learn more about prayer. We invite you to come along with us as we look into the Word of God together and study this very important, yet exciting subject. We believe it’s going to be an enjoyable and enlightening study. Come join us. Check the events tab at the top of the page for meeting times and locations near you!

Teach Us To Pray

Praying Man

And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray…. (Luke 11:1)

Someone has said that the greatest lesson we could learn is to learn to pray. It would do us all well to learn to pray. Every Christian should desire to learn to pray more effectively.  With that in mind, we will be looking into the Word of God for principles that will guide us in this endeavor.

We invite you to join us beginning tonight. We will meet at Festive Celebrations located at 266 East Main Street in Abingdon, VA. Bible study begins at 7:30 but you are welcome to come a little early and enjoy a cup of coffee and relaxed conversation with us.

We will also apply what we are learning by praying over requests that you may have. If you have a particular need you will be welcome to share it with us and we will help you pray. We are experiencing the power of prayer and we invite you to as well!

It’s Supper Time

Southern Food

Then said He unto him, A certain man made great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. (Luke 14:16-17)

“Supper” will be served at 2:00 tomorrow. We will begin with hors d’oeuvres (aka pre-service prayer) at 1:30. This is something you will not want to miss. It sets the stage for the main course and can sometimes be the best part! We will meet once again at the Quality Inn Conference Room located at 930 East Main Street in Abingdon, VA.

You will not need dinnerware or utensils. The only thing you will need to bring is an open Bible and an open heart. Come hungry and you are also encouraged to bring a friend. There’s plenty of room for everyone (we even have overflow facilities). See you Sunday!

New Home Search

New Home SearchIt started on Friday, October 4, 2013 as a “Community Outreach Service” at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. There was enough interest generated from that one service that we followed up with a Bible Study the next Tuesday night and we have been meeting every since. The Lord has shown His favor from that initial service. There is a hunger among us to know Him and also to make Him known to others.

With that said, we are ready to move to our next phase in the process and that is to find a location to meet for both Sunday and Tuesday services as well as Revivals, Prayer Meetings, and church activities. Our vision is bigger than what our current facilities will accommodate. We want to provide a ministry to children, as well as meet the spiritual needs of various groups.

If you know of somewhere that may be suitable for a church home, please contact us with the information. We also ask that you would join us in prayer that the Lord would help us find the location where we can be most effective at a price we can afford.

While we are searching for a church home, we trust that those who do not attend a strong Bible believing church will find a home with us. If you are hungry for more, we invite you to join us for Bible Study or Sunday Worship service. Go to the Events tab at the top of this web page and you will see meeting times and locations. This is a great time to be a part of what God is doing in Abingdon and surrounding areas. Come join the excitement!

Sundays Are Exciting!

Dig Deep IconI don’t know what a typical Sunday consists of for you, but we hope you will join us for an exciting Sunday tomorrow at the Quality Inn Conference Room located at 930 East Main Street in Abingdon, VA tomorrow afternoon. That’s right, I said afternoon! That means you can sleep in if you desire.

We will meet at 2:00 (1:30 pre-service prayer) for a time of Worship and the Word. Bring a notebook and pen if you desire as this Sunday may very well be a time when we dig into the Word together. We believe studying the Bible should be engaging, enlightening, and encouraging.

We will enjoy worshipping together, praying together, fellowshipping together, and growing together. You don’t want to miss it and we don’t want to miss you! We hope to see you Sunday as we dig deeper into the Word of God.

Storms of Life

LighthouseStorms are inevitable. They are an unavoidable part of life. No doubt you may be reading this and going through a storm of your own. It could be turmoil in your marriage, trouble with your children, financial difficulty, failing health, failing grades, or a myriad of other things taxing your mind and troubling your spirit. The fact is life can just be tough sometimes.

I heard an elder minister say one time “Be nice to everyone, because everyone is having a tough time.” The waitress who seemed a bit unfriendly; you never know what troubles she left at home. The boss who seemed a bit demanding; could it be he is facing enormous pressure from corporate? The co-worker that seemed indifferent; it’s possible she is dealing with insurmountable difficulties.

Ailing parents, troubled teens, marital infidelity, too much month at the end of the money. If it’s not you, it’s your neighbor. It’s the storms of life. You are probably going through one or just coming out of it. Stop and think about those around you. Someone you know may be facing tough situations right now. That someone may be you.

It is good to know that when you are facing the storms of life there is a place you can turn. There is a lighthouse. There is an anchor. There is hope! Experience it Tuesday night as we meet for prayer and Bible study at Festive Celebrations located at 266 East Main Street in Abingdon, VA. We start at 7:30 P.M. although you can come a few minutes early and enjoy a cup of coffee and fellowship with friendly folks.

We believe you can find the help you need during this difficult time. We will pray for you, offer you words of hope and encouragement, and watch God either speak peace to the raging waters or steady you until the storm passes by.
