Reaching Your Potential

Potter's WheelPotential has been defined as “capable of being or becoming; Possible, but not yet actual.” I have read that the average person only utilizes 10% of their potential. That being the case, we are falling so short of what we could be and the impact we could make. Someone said “the potential of the average person is like a huge ocean unsailed, a new continent unexplored, a world of possibilities waiting to be released and channeled toward some great good.”

I’m convinced that the only place where one can truly reach their potential is in the church of the living God. We will never be all that we can be; all that we were intended to be outside of the will of almighty God. After all, we were created for the Master’s glory (Isaiah 43:7) and nothing else will suffice the soul of a man. With that thought in mind it behoves us to subject and submit ourselves to the preaching of the Word of God. That is the method God has chosen not only to save us, but to “perfect” us. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:11-13:
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

It was Apostle Paul’s desire that the saints to which he was given the oversight of would “come behind in no gift” (1 Corinthians 1:7). A brief study of the scriptural phrase “come behind” simply means: “to come late or too tardily to be left behind in the race & so fail to reach the goal, to fall short of the end to fail, to be wanting to suffer want, to be devoid of, to lack (be inferior) in excellence or worth.” It is likewise my desire that every saint realize their potential in God and be the vessels that he would have us to be. We want to help people become.

If you feel that dissatisfaction with your position in life and are looking for more, please join us in worship service Sunday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. We will be meeting at the Quality Inn Conference Room located at 930 East Main Street in Abingdon, VA. The potter is wanting to mold you to be a vessel that’s useful to Him and His kingdom. See you there!
