Vision Night

Scripture declares in Proverbs 29:18; “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” It’s good to know that God does not leave us fumbling in the dark. He has a plan; a certain direction for our lives.

As we are approaching a new year, we do not want to wonder aimlessly through the maze of life without a plan. It is with this thought in mind that we intend to discuss a direction for our group this coming Thursday night. If you are interested in knowing more about us and possibly being involved in what God is involved in, we invite you to join us for “Vision Night.” We will be meeting in room 149 of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center at 7:30 P.M. Please join us!

Good News!

Here’s some good news for those participating in the Bible study group or thinking of attending. We will be moving to room 149 of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center beginning in January. While room 235 has been very comfortable for us, this will be far better. For starters, room 149 is on the ground floor which is better for the elderly and also more handicap accessible, it has restrooms conveniently located at the entrance, and it will accommodate at least sixty-five people as we have seen. This will allow for growth and prevent us from moving to a different room for worship services. The staff is also willing to accommodate our seating arrangements by setting up tables for Bible study situations. This is a good move and a great way to begin a new year. See you January 2nd in room 149!

Cookies, Milk, & Jesus; A Great Combo

Cookies & Milk #1I’ve heard of some who set out cookies and milk this time of the year in hopes that Santa will show up. This Tuesday, we are having cookies, milk, and believing Jesus is gonna show up. The Scripture states “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20 KJV). We have certainly found it to be the case when we gather every week to study the Word of God together.

If you’ve never joined us during one of these special sessions, you owe it to yourself to do so. You will find folks from different walks of life that are coming together for a common purpose. We are coming with a desire for a deeper walk with God, a hunger for His Word, and a longing to be a part of His body.

Tuesdays at 7:30 P.M. are always special for those meeting in room 235 of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. This week each family is bringing cookies for the others in the group to try. If it’s your first time to join us, you don’t need to bring a thing except an appetite for something sweet, but more importantly; a hunger for God’s Word. It’s going to be cookies, milk, Jesus, and you! It’s sounding better all the time isn’t it? See you Tuesday!

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is gonna be a good night in Abingdon, VA. While there are those who have a phobia that would cause them to expect the worst on this particular date, there are others that will be anticipating great things this coming Friday.

We will be having a worship service in room #149 of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center. The service will begin at 7:30. Bring a friend and plan on an exciting evening of worship and the Word.

In preparation for this service, please designate a portion of your prayer time toward this event. We desire to see needs met and souls saved on this special evening. If you know anyone who needs something from God or has a hunger for the deeper things of God, please invite them to join us this Friday night. Come expecting!

A Great Week!

We got off to a good start this week as we experienced our first baptism within the group. Bro. Roby was baptized in Jesus name on Sunday. We are so excited to see what God has done in his life and believing that the best days are yet ahead.

We had a great Bible study last evening as the presence of God was so evident. Our Bible study was centered around Psalm 33:4 “the Word of the Lord is right.” There are those that would attack the validity of God’s Word, but it is still right. It doesn’t matter what friends or relatives say; the Word of the Lord is right! It doesn’t matter what the atheists or agnostics say; the Word of the Lord is right! It doesn’t matter what religious tradition says; the Word of the Lord is right!

We discussed the importance of the Word of God in our lives and its importance in what we are doing to reach our world. The Scripture says in Acts 6:7 “The Word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly.” An increased focus on the Word of God resulted in an increased number of coverts. We must believe the same thing works today. If we plant the seed of the Word, there will be a harvest!
